Our Daily Journey

Students from the Glasgow School of Art staged a one day workshop based on students daily journeys to school, focusing on the local built environment, people, places, routes and maps.

By understanding the geography of their personal route to school the students are more able to question the world around them. We looked at the work of contemporary British artists Sam Ainsley, Louise Hopkins and Albert Irvin who have all used the idea of maps to produce an individual response to their built environment.

The workshops were offered as part of a public engagement programme that will include a piece of public art at Almondvale Place, Livingston. The artwork created by the students will help the artists to reflect local ideas in their design process.
