The framework for learning and teaching puts the learner firmly at the centre, actively involved in every aspect of their own learning.

Learner voice is not solely about pupil council activities but should be embedded throughout the school and curriculum to enable learners to develop mature ways of influencing their learning and whole school community.

Pupil councils give learners the opportunity to experience meetings where they can discuss, amongst themselves and with partner organisations, the topics that matter to them and to their classmates. These meetings, which serve a useful function in helping to improve the learning environment, can also provide rich opportunities to engage learners in thinking about how the school can help them to become better learners.

Pupil voice can be developed and encouraged in many different ways. Pupils should have the opportunity to discuss their learning and their progress regularly and to contribute ideas and suggestions on how they can move forward.

In Inveralmond Community High School, we value all learners’ views and contributions to the significant aspects of their education and believe that this experience will help pupils in their development as global citizens.
Within departments, pupils are regularly asked for their feedback about subjects and courses in various forms. This information is used to facilitate improvements in courses and teaching methods and in some departments pupils are given feedback regarding the points that have been shared.
Furthermore, we have created a Learner Voice structure which ensures all learners are given the opportunity to have their say about their educational experiences and the school as a whole with a particular emphasis on driving school improvement. Regular monthly meetings are held following the structure outlined below.
